On July 23 2018 Zoe Holohan and her husband of four days, Brian O'Callaghan Westropp were caught up in the Greek wildfire disaster that eventually took 104 lives.

Tragically that toll included Zoe's beloved husband Brian.

What unfolded was a life-altering year during which Zoe found herself not only fighting for her own life on more than one occasion, but also struggling to cope with devastating loss.

In an attempt to make sense of it all, she began to write and the result is the deeply revealing, No 1 best-selling memoir 'As The Smoke  Clears'.

Since publishing her first book Zoe has gone on to write her first column 'Zoe's Diary' in the Irish Independent (Ireland's No 1 selling title), offering a glimpse into her recovery process from severe burns, PTSD and complex grief. Her upbeat approach to life, unabashed honesty and tongue-in-cheek sense of humor in the face of adversity has proven to be a source of inspiration for many of her readers.

In the midst of much publicity around her story Zoe began a career in Motivational Speaking and has gone on to inspire professional audiences across the country. Her work in the fields of Resilience, Overcoming Adversity in life and Improving your Mental Health has reached a wide sector of leaders in industry including IBEC, ITAG, Irish Life, Kerry Group, Image Media and Boston Scientific to name a few.

As a burns survivor, Zoe is also a proud Aveeno brand ambassador, having experienced huge benefits from their lotions on her skin recovery journey. She has given numerous talks in the realm of Body Positivity and Renewal, enthusiastically endorsing the brand.

As the Smoke Clears was nominated by Joe Duffy for the RTE Audience Choice Award in the An Post Book Awards 2021,

When interviewed about his reasons for nominating the memoir Joe explained:

'It is a powerful beautifully written book... a life affirming tribute to love, courage, family, medics and Zoe's personal fortitude. It is superbly written'
